MIS Computer Lab Guidelines

The lab is designated for students who are MIS majors and minors. Non-MIS students are not allowed to use any of the facilities in the MIS lab, unless they have obtained special permission. Non-MIS students may use other computing facilities available here.

When the lab is extremely busy, workstation usage must be based on the PRIORITY of the project. All MIS-related schoolwork has higher priority over non-MIS-related work and personal usage. MIS Team projects have higher priority than individual projects. In any case there is a deadline for a project that is very near students working on that project shall have priority over all other students.

DO NOT give away your login information to any non-MIS students. If you are accompanied by non-MIS friends, you must supervise them at all time. Otherwise, you will be held responsible for all of their actions and your account will be terminated.

You may bring food and/or drinks into the lab, but DO NOT make a mess and you MUST clean up after yourself. If the computer lab does not look clean, this privilege will be taken away for all users.

You ARE NOT ALLOWED to install any software on the workstations. Individual files and programs stored in the local drive will be deleted without further notice. If you have suggestions about new software that we should have in our lab, please address them to your professor or the lab consultants.

All personal files must reside in the individual directory (U:\ drive) and MUST NOT exceed 100 MB total. Large files can be recorded to CDs.

You MUST log out (and make sure that you ARE logged out) before you leave. If you leave your computer unattended for a long period of time, we have the right to log you out, especially when the lab is busy.

DO NOT lock any workstations if you know you will be gone for a while (more than 15 minutes). If we see any locked workstations, we will unlock it immediately without further notification, and all unsaved works will be lost.

You have a 250 pages printing quota per semester and you should not exceed that limit. Delete the print job if it hangs. If it blocks the print queue, you must report it to one of the lab consultants or the lab manager IMMEDIATELY!

The computers are equipped with headphone jacks. You may bring headphones to listen to music, but you must not disturb others.

There is a self-served lost-and-found box on the shelf by the entrance. When you find something (i.e. disks, books, pens, etc.) that does not belong to you, please put it in that box.

Questions/Comments, Email the Lab Manager
